Ring in the New Year with Style
Plan a simple New Years’ Eve party at home.
- FOOD: Keep food small and simple. A variety of sweet and savory finger foods are enough to keep the party going all night long. The business of the holidays is winding down, keep it simple and consider serving items that can be prepared in advance, that allow guests to mingle and don’t require them to be seated.
- DRINK: Have plenty of beverages on hand, with and without alcohol. Champagne is a must have for the midnight toast. It’s also fun to have a signature drink for the evening.
- ATMOSPHERE: New Year’s Eve is a great time to break out all that glitters. Create a theme with sparkly lights, lots of candles and gold and glittery accents. These are easy to find in stores or to create yourself.
- FUN AND GAMES: Find some fun minute to win it games to keep your guests engaged throughout the evening or try a free printable game with a New Years’ theme.

What are your resolutions and goals for 2017?
I love taking some time at the end of the year to evaluate the past year and focus on the year ahead. One of my favorite things to do is create a vision board. This represents all things you want to focus on in the coming year. It’s a fun way to get focused on what you want and really see what you want. Place it somewhere where you will see it every day.
I came across this great article regarding resolutions. This breaks down your year into monthly goals. It would be a fun way to try a lot of different things and see what really makes your heart sing.

Home Trends for 2017
We’ve been told that Pantone’s color of the year is Greenery, a bright apple green that invokes the idea of new life and a fresh outlook. This in no way means that it needs to be a part of your interior décor, but you’ll see it pop up more often in various items throughout the year. Paint companies offer their own take on color for 2017. The hues vary from smoky grays and purples to vibrant yellow. This may be a good place to start if you’re thinking of changing things up inside in 2017.
Trends come and go but Houzz.com has compiled a list of 28 home trends for 2017. One thing’s for sure – there are many things on the list that are classics. Some things are new, such as voice activated assistants, like Google’s Alexa. Other trends are a blast from the past, such as wainscoting in the bathroom, but hey, to this generation this is a new concept.
The new possibilities with the turning of a new year are exciting. Here’s to your best year yet.
Happy New Year! -Julie
